From a legal standpoint, Abundant Media is the umbrella corporation owned by me, Sarah Lewis. The corporation owns all of my various projects, including my blog design and consulting business, Blogging Expertise, and my many blogs.
From a philosophical standpoint, Abundant Media is all about using my skills and resources (from tech to administration to contacts) to do good in the world.
The name comes from a Bible verse that says, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” I’m a Christian, so I take that seriously, and I’ve come to the conclusion that in many cases, the reason people don’t have abundant lives is that other people get in the way or don’t do what they can to help.
Christians are specifically called to worship God through social justice. Check it out:
“This is the kind of fast day I’m after:
to break the chains of injustice,
get rid of exploitation in the workplace,
free the oppressed,
cancel debts.“What I’m interested in seeing you do is:
sharing your food with the hungry,
inviting the homeless poor into your homes,
putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad,
being available to your own families.”
This stuff is important!
Here are the specific priorities of Abundant Media:
- To share the good news of hope and meaning in Jesus Christ. This is still something I’m learning for myself, and sometimes I feel like I just don’t get it, but there is nothing more important than a person’s soul. I realize this might offend some people, but as a Christian, how could I possibly claim to have any integrity if I don’t take God’s commands seriously? I do this by supporting effective organizations like Project PATCH, and my local church, that make a positive difference in people’s lives.
- To reduce poverty and preventable diseases. This fits directly into the kind of worship God has asked for, and also with my personality. I support the work of Millennium Promise, Compassion, the ONE campaign, ADRA, and The Luke Society, who are working tirelessly to improve the lives of people all over the world.
- To promote entrepreneurship and education. Beyond assisting with the immediate needs of impoverished people, I believe the best thing we can do is give a hand up with long-term success by educating and supporting motivated learners. To this end, I support Kiva (and I love the fact that my money keeps working over and over) and DonorsChoose.org.
These are the things that I’m passionate about. I use my skills to promote these goals, and also to directly assist worthy organizations with pro bono work. As I am financially able, I will continue to shift more time to “projects that matter.” If you have something in mind, please get in touch.
